Suffolk and Waveney Council Offices - Lowestoft

The New Council Offices on Kirkley Waterfront in Lowestoft was completed in May 2015, this cutting edge building will be shared by Suffolk County Council and Waveney District Council.

Brightstar Energy Systems installed 88 high efficiency PV modules with a single three phase inverter. The panels are installed on a German K2 ballasted mounting system. The system will generate 17,500kw/hrs and save 7,884kg’s of CO2 per annum. Access to the roof was difficult so we instructed a contract lift to crane the kit onto the roof. More information is available for this project on request.

S C Wilkinson Farms Ltd

Recently installed 115kW roof mounted PV array to Hall farm and 100kW roof mounted PV array to Grange Farm, Lincolnshire.

In the Autumn of 2014 Brightstar Energy Systems Ltd were invited to explore the renewable energy opportunities for S C Wilkinson Farms Ltd, Lincolnshire. The company owns and manages two farms, Hall farm and Grange Farm in Lincolnshire. We undertook detailed surveys of each farm including an analysis of electrical energy consumption and future requirements. It quickly became apparent that in addition to the farms existing biomass boiler installations a commercial scale PV array to each farm would dramatically reduce energy costs whilst also creating a new revenue stream through the Feed In Tariff (FiT).

A detailed design and specification was drawn up, along with project costs and the decision to proceed was taken in late Autumn. From ordering to completion and commissioning to six weeks and a 115kW PV array for Hall farm, with 100kW at Grange farm, both went online shortly before Christmas. Both arrays are now producing free electricity for the farms and the first FiT payments will be collected shortly. Brightstar Energy is monitoring energy production and early indications are that the arrays are not only meeting all expectations but exceeding them. Should you wish to visit these farms and see the installations for yourselves then S C Wilkinson will be delighted to discuss them with you and show you around the installation. Please call Brightstar Energy and we will be pleased to arrange a visit for you.

A summary of the systems:

  • 115kW roof mounted PV array to Hall Farm.
  • 100kW roof mounted PV array to Grange Farm.
  • Grange Farm – 400 x 250W PV panels.
  • Hall Farm – 460 x 250W PV panels.
  • Estimated annual units of electricity production (saved from grid purchase) = 172,515kWh.
  • Estimated FiT payments – year one = in excess of £17,000.
  • Initial Return on Investment (ROI) year one in excess of 18%.
  • Estimated payback of capital cost = five years.
  • 100% financed package (arranged by Brightstar Energy Systems Ltd.)
  • Potential to expand the systems in the future if required.

Mr & Mrs Young, Norwich

Our customer had looked at Solar PV on a couple of occasions but never proceeded with the installation.

Brightstar Energy Systems surveyed the roof and carried out a full shading analysis as per our MCS requirements and came up with an 8 panel system installed over two sections of the roof.

The system comprises of 8 Seraphim 250w modules and a pair of Solis inverters, one for each array. This south facing array will generate 1,312 kw/hrs per year with payback achieved in 8 years.

KSM Case Study

KSM Case Study

Georgian Hall and Cottages, Norfolk - 04.02.2015

Recently installed 70kW KSM Tuxedo multi-fuel biomass boiler.

Our client expressed a wish to install a small biomass district heating system to replace the existing oil fired boilers to their 11 bed Georgian Hall and two adjacent cottages within the estate.

After considering the different boilers available along with their anticipated fuel strategy for future use the KSM Tuxedo multi-fuel biomass boiler was chosen. Produced in Denmark, the KSM Tuxedo benefits from high quality production as well as being able to take biomass pellet, woodchip and batch logs as fuel.

This multi-fuel capability enables the estate to make maximum use of their own log wood fuel production whilst also enabling the solution to take advantage of either wood chip or wood pellet in the future.

The whole system was installed and commissioned by Christmas 2014, enabling the estate to take maximum advantage of the significant cost savings and RHI payments for winter 2014.

A summary of the system:

  • 70kW KSM Tuxedo biomass boiler with integrated fuel store (wood chip and wood pellet).
  • 2000ltr buffer tank.
  • Integrated fuel store with hydraulic lid and sweep auger.
  • 40kW heat exchanger to hall.
  • 2 x 15kW heat exchanger to each cottage.
  • Capital cost under £55,000 from initial consultancy and design to completion and commissioning.
  • Installed and commissioned within six weeks from date of order.
  • Initial return on investment (ROI) in excess of 21% for year one.
  • Full capital payback within five years of commissioning.
  • Estimated profit over twenty years in excess of £200,000.
